Carrie Downie Families,
We are excited to introduce Javana Rhodes as the new Student Advisor at Carrie Downie Elementary School!
Ms. Rhodes brings 15 years of experience in education and a strong commitment to student advocacy, whole-child support, and inclusive school communities. She is already a familiar face at Carrie Downie, where she has served as a Literacy Coach. She previously taught fourth grade at New Castle Elementary and has also worked in the Red Clay and Newark Public School Districts.
Throughout her career, Ms. Rhodes has served as a classroom teacher, team leader, School-Based Team Lead, mentor, and instructional coach. She has supported MTSS initiatives, trauma-informed practices, professional learning, and the use of student data to strengthen instruction and interventions.
Ms. Rhodes earned a Bachelor of Education in English with a concentration in Urban Education from Rutgers University and a Master of Education in School Leadership from Wilmington University.
Her top priority is building trusting relationships with students and families so every child feels heard, valued, and supported. She also hopes to serve as a strong connection among families, teachers, support staff, and administrators.
“I believe in your potential even on the days you might doubt it, and I am here to help you navigate every hurdle along the way,” Ms. Rhodes shared with students. “Together, we will turn your goals into achievements and make sure your voice is always heard.”
Ms. Rhodes describes her leadership style as relational, driven, and flexible. Outside of school, she enjoys shopping, reading, grilling, coffee, and gummy candy. She is also a fan of fall, mathematics, podcasts, Bob’s Burgers, and the New York Giants.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Rhodes to her new role at Carrie Downie. We are excited for her to continue her journey as a Colonial and bring her passion for students and families to the Power of WE.
Welcome, Ms. Rhodes!
